afternoon

amazing view from my hotel window, spring 2004. First one taken before heading out to see Sacre-Coeur in the morning, second taken after getting back and being harassed by bad artists trying to sketch my portrait for 30 euro outside the church. The third taken after resting up and heading out for the night, the last taken after getting back from getting lost and freaked out in the Moulin Rouge district. They turned off the church lights around midnight.

Just saw this online, very fun concept I'd love to try something like this on canvas. Artist Ruth Singer's textile art

oil&water redux (left)

well, here's the facelift; it was supposed to be shades of tan but somehow ended up purple. This time I bought the white in an oil paint (and tried to tint it tan) and a chocolate acrylic. Added some gold touches after it dried to distract myself from the fact that i ran out of chocolate so didn't acheive the bleeding of the colors as much as before.

If they don't grow on me by this weekend, i may try again. At least they still match better than the black and white did.

say goodbye to these two, the black and white clashes the new apartment so i'm going to redo them in the same style but new colors. Maybe a tan and green mix.

Oil and Water (closeup
I used black oil paint and white acrylic, using a rolling brush. I love the way they repel eachother on the canvas

oil&water (closeup)
its such a quick fool-proof way to decorate an apartment, mixing oil and water-based paints on canvas. The canvases were pretty cheap too, got them at a sale at Utrecht in Harvard Square

if i ever have high ceilings again, i think i'll attempt to make this.
I saw a similar invention once in The Onion Cellar (a play at the Zero Arrow Theater) where they used flashlights to light up the inside of the umbrella dome as they walked down the isles. So i'm not sure if i'm imagining that there is really an umbrella that has a battery operated light inside the dome, i'll have to investigate.

I need this. So i'll stop leaving them in restaurants. Anyone know how much 4,200 yen is?

a wild shetland pony i saw in Whales... okay there was a fence somewhere... but he had like 100 acres so he thinks he's wild anyway and that's what matters.

Colored in photoshop, can't remember how though.

Orisinal.com

i must have first come across this guy's flash gaming site when researching my old url OriginL.com (which i forgot to renew oops).
I really do not play or enjoy playing online games. Orisinal.com is my one and only true exception that proves the rule. His flash games inspire me to work on getting past Normal mode in actionscript. I can't pick a favorite. But right now I'm loving Cats, such a cute concept:

another digital photo, taken in 2002 with my then-new canon elph s230. my favorite aspect of this photo is that it is completely undoctored/untouched. I used a funky orange Target lightbox/lamp that said "party" on one side, and "sleep" on the other (i still have it. somewhere.) and leaned it against a framed mirror.

"Me (Blueboy 5)"

for a minute i considered approaching this art archive chronologically, but i think that's why i gave up the other two times. So to get this ball rolling, i'm starting with what's already up on Flickr.

This is a 5 part photocollage series I made from a picture of a paper bag, a leather sofa, and some weird guy i met at a party. I think his name was jeff. Thanks jeff.

I titled each of the five respectively, "Do" "You" "Even" "Know" "Me"
Partly because i feel like i dissected and befriended "jeff" from this one photograph, and now I feel like i know him better than i actually do. It's similar to the feeling many people have towards celebrities, after staring at them long enough. Or when you dream about someone you hardly know; i've had that happen with co-workers, and then when you see them the next day you feel compelled to have a deep conversation with them or hug them or something.

p.s. so in setting up my Flickr account to blog photos for me, i was offered these two very effed up auto-email addresses today:

Email your photos to this address

women34cold@photos.flickr.com

Email your photos to this address

period39late@photos.flickr.com

what is up with that??? I kept resetting it to get a seemingly normal/nonsensical one, so don't even bother trying to email them.
